Peru COCLA; Fair Trade, Organic, WP

COCLA is a coffee cooperative association located in the Quillabamba region of Peru, east of the Incan city of Machu Picchu. The organization is made up of over 8,000 producers—of which more than 25% are women. Continuing a long tradition of coffee growing, cooperative members pass on their agricultural skills and knowledge from generation to generation. The organization sought out Fair Trade certification in order to more directly control the commercialization of their coffee and to bypass the intermediaries in Lima. COCLA has been Fair Trade Certified by Fairtrade Labelling Organizations International (FLO) since 1994.
