Papua New Guinea Kigabah Plantation

Kigabah Estate operates on a nucleus estate model, a large grower (plantation) that acts as a central hub servicing smaller growers and block holders, assisting them with agricultural advice on pruning and fertilizer scheduling, providing transport for cherry, access to cheaper inputs through discounts offered from purchasing large volume and the provision of seedlings.

At 5,500 feet above sea level, in what was once a swamp, coffee is nourished by abundant rainfall and rich nutrients found in the thick, black topsoil. These fertile conditions give Kigabah Estate coffee a juicy acidity, round body and herbal notes reminiscent of black tea tannins. The Kigabah Estate is progressive in its farming practices and environmental practices, and contributes ten percent of its profits to the farming community.

Cupping Notes: The Kigabah has a surprising complexity flavor. It is hard to pin down one of the many fruit flavors in this cup. However; it is a pleasure to try.

Varietal: Catimor & Typica

Processing: Pulped

Grade: A/X

Paupa New Guinea Tribal Aromas

This Papua-New Guinea is grown by the members of Tribal Aromas, a collective of small grower groups in the Chimbu Province, in the Eastern Highlands at an elevation between 4000 and 4500 feet. The region is almost entirely road less, and so remote that the coffee must be taken out by airplane, costing the farmers about fifty cents per pound. The coffee is cultivated on small clusters of plots, ranging from .5 to 1 hectare per farmer. Coffee is the only source of cash income for the growers as all other land is used to grow food crops for family consumption. All coffee is shade grown and certified by Australia Certified Organic, accredited by USDA and IFOAM.

Cupping Notes: Maple syrup, Tropical fruits and hints of berry in the acidity make this coffee very sweet and creamy. Stands alone well, or could offer medium-to-high notes in a blend.

Varietal: Bourbon, Typica, Catura and Arusa

Processing: Wet Processed (WP)

Grade: A/X

Certifications: Organic, Shade Grown
