Ethiopia is where Coffea arabica, the coffee plant, originates. While the plant is now grown in various parts of the world, Ethiopia itself still accounts for around 3% of the global coffee market. This Yirgacheffe comes from Gelana Abaya wet mill and is located just northwest of the town of Yirgacheffe, on the eastern slopes of the range of hills that separate Yirgacheffe from Lake Abaya. Gelana Abaya Woreda produces some of the best naturals in Yirgacheffe. Home to the Tore people the region counts more than 9,000 small producers contributing from their small holdings.
Cupping Notes: Sweet peach, nectarine and green melon are prominent, along with heavy lilac and lime zest aromatics. It's this complexity along with the evident care invested in the coffee by the farmers delivering to Gelana Abaya that sets it apart from the scores of other Yirgacheffe offers.
